Here at Defence Lab, we run martial arts classes, courses and events in and around Weybridge and New Haw and the wider areas of Surrey, for everyone from children of four upwards. We teach a powerful real-life fighting system, based on concepts and methods devised over 20 years of scientific study.
We run separate classes for children of different ages and adults and Defence Lab is functional, practical and realistic. No prior experience is needed and regardless of your fitness ability, we guarantee you will have fun, whilst learning something truly unique and important. All you will need to do is to turn up with a desire to learn!
Founded by Andy Norman, our system aims to get a better understanding of what it means to be human – mentally, physically and spiritually. As we understand ourselves better, we therefore understand our opponents better. Unlike ancient martial arts, our system focuses on fighting and defence in the real world on the streets;we look at defence against multiple attackers, MMA-skilled opponents and knife threats.
We teach our students to not be conditioned by boundaries and to always ask questions. One of the major differences between us and other martial arts is that we don’t consider ourselves or our system to be ‘perfect’; it is constantly changing and evolving as the world around us does. Whilst our students will progress through a belt system, even our most experienced teachers continue to train and test our system.

Martial arts for kids in and around Weybridge (KT11)
If you are looking for your child to learn martial arts in a safe and fun learning environment, look no further than Defence Lab. In our classes, there is an emphasis on self-defence and peaceful, non-violent resolutions to any conflicts. It covers all the same principles, techniques and mechanics as our adult programme but not at the same intensity.
There is also a large element of fun – the 4 to 6 year olds defend themselves against the Naughty Goblins or Naughty Pirates, for example, with fun and interactive games. In the next class (for ages 7 to 12), those goblins and pirates become real-life bullies.
