“I simply cannot recommend the DLT Self-defence training course highly enough.
We invited them in to do an all-day carousel workshop so that the whole of Year 10 could benefit from the self-defence training techniques which were taught. The session was fast-paced, highly interactive, thoroughly engaging, and extremely empowering for our young people. They came away with fewer inhibitions, more confidence and a feeling of increased self-worth.
Clear explanations for each self-defence move were given and each one taught, built on the previous one, which gave the students a thorough and graduated understanding of the reasons for the efficacy of each move.
Our students (and supervising teachers!) threw themselves into the session, as many a life-protecting technique was demonstrated by the extremely professional instructors, which were then practised by the students.
Powerful testimonies were used to demonstrate the relevance of the techniques taught and the question-and-answer session at the end allowed students to ask about knife-crime, the importance of looking out for each other in a group, and when to fight for your life.
Students left the session, truly inspired, having mastered one of the most important life-skills they have ever learnt at school.”

Head of Year 10
During Activity Week our Year 10 and Year 12 students enjoyed a day of self-defence instruction from Defence Lab Training. Tahir is a patient, no-nonsense teacher who delivered very useful information and techniques to ensure that pupils were properly trained to deal with real-life situations they might meet when going about their daily lives.
Our pupils found the lessons good fun and full of practical common-sense approaches, which are easy to use and very effective. If you want to run a self-defence course for school children, I have no hesitation in recommending Tahir and his company.

Tahir and his team came to work with our Year 10 girls during our activity week, which was themed around female empowerment. The skills that the girls learnt, both practical and theoretical, certainly empowered them to feel more protected and confident, particularly in the light of recent global events such as the “Me Too” movement. After a talk and some of personal anecdotes, told in an accessible and humorous way, the pupils worked in small groups on different self-defence techniques. The repeated practice meant that these techniques are now embedded. Hopefully they will never have to use them, but they certainly feel more confident out and about now.
